Since Colt and I had kids we have never been gone for more than a weekend with out them.
There were plenty of times that we talked about going away. We talked about going on vacation maybe going on a cruise.
We have gone away for a week before but we always had a nursing baby that joined us. The trips were never just for fun. Once was so we could get our Colorado house ready to be put on the market another time was a working trip for Colt.
It wasn't because we didn't want to get away together but when you have five kids it's not easy to find someone willing to watch that many kids for that long. We had offers from grandparents but living so far away added an extra challenge of getting 5 kids to a sitter more than 900 miles away.
Now that we have been in Las Vegas for awhile and being so close to family and finally not having a nursing baby it was now or never.
We divided the kids between our family members. 3 in UT and 2 here in Vegas.
Then Colt and I jumped on a plane and headed to Houston.
We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our time together as just us. After the first 3 days we looked at each other and both said how much we missed the kids and couldn't belive we still had 4 more days until we were together as a family again.
We have spent the last 3 and a half years traveling as a family and although it has its challenges, traveling with kids is so much fun.
Colt and I will go away again someday but when we do, it won't be for more than a couple of days. I don't think our hearts could handle not being with our kids for very long.
